Something For Everyone At Artifacts, By Donnie G.

In existence for 12 years, the Artifacts Boutique has been at its current location (1-12 Main St. in Belmar) for 12 1/2 years. Beginning on Mattison Avenue in Asbury Park, Artifacts moved to Bradley Beach before finding a location on 10th Avenue behind Silvertunes. The confusion at this location was that many people though that Artifacts belonged to Silvertunes. Making the move to Main street became a necessity for Lizard (the owner of Artifacts).

Open six days a week (closed Tuesday), chairs with "come rest your awareness for awhile" greet one as they walk into the store. Although a boutique, there is a small toy section at the front of the store. Plastic dinosaurs, magnetic funny faces, bugs, cars and even fingernails (held over from Halloween) would all make great stocking stuffers. At the register, there are wooden trains that remind Lizard of the ones she had as a kid.

With the merchandise all being handpicked by Lizard, Artifacts carries clothing that have multiple uses. The same piece can be formal or casual. A long velvet dress can be accessorized with a funky top. There are dresses made by Nostalgia that can be worn to a wedding or a casual affair. Alpaca sweaters, velvet scarves and shawls can be found throughout the store. If you're worried about how you look, there are even worry dolls available to help you with this predicament.

Silver Forest and White Sands earrings are in stock. Cassi comes into the shop and designs some special earrings made with semi-precious stones and glass. Fotofolio postcards, depth cards, eyeglass chaing from Suave and beautiful necklaces made from hand-blown glass can be found here. While looking at the jewelry, watch out for the Indonesion Flying Frogs and Cats.

Works by local artists are in display throughout the store. Kochansky and Rosen are two that can be viewed. While Doug Z's toaster is and interesting piece, Vincent DiGerlando's positive words are a popular item. Lizard is an artist in her own right because she customizes hats and headpieces also.

Rachel Lewis helps out Lizard on Saturdays. Liz, as well as Rachel's mom nurtures her artist ability. Open on Christmas Eve from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., those last minute gifts you're looking for can be found here. For any inquiries about this wonderland of gifts, contact Liz at (732) 681-2002. Free gift wrapping, alterations and gift certificates are available to make that last minute shopping spree a pleasurable experience.
